"A Slice of Soul" Tour and EP

Two of Australia’s favourite voices have combined to embark on a national tour, and have released a CD as well to celebrate a very special partnership being born.

Peter Cupples, and his celebrated soul band from the 70’s Stylus, have combined their talents with one of New Zealands most popular exports, Margaret Urlich, to put together a series of live shows.

When you combine Margaret’s distinctive vocals, with one of the countries finest musical lineups, you were sure to get a pretty special result, and special it is.

Stylus start the show with a walk down memory lane, reminding the audience just how good these musicians are. Ron Peers has never sounded better on lead guitar, Ashley Henderson with his distinctive vocals and Bass work, Sam Mcnally on keyboards, one of Australia’s finest, and of course the impeccable vocal abilities of Peter Cupples, truly one of Australia’s finest talents. It’s only when you hear Summer Breeze, World of make believe, Work out fine and So Much Love together in one set that you remember just how good the music of Stylus was, and is.

Then Margaret Urlich has the luxury of doing her set, with Stylus as her support band. This fusion of sound is something to behold. It sounds like these guys have been playing together for years, but this is only the beginning of the relationship, and you can only imagine how good it will sound after they have had time together on the road.

The highlight of the evening was the two duets performed by Peter and Margaret together. These songs appear on the CD which has been released in conjunction with the tour.

The classic “Too much too little too late” was better than the original. Two of the best singers in the country together putting their own distinctive touch to the Johnnie Mathis/Denice Williams standard.

And “Aint Nothin Like The Real Thing” again was better than you would hear it anywhere.
Hopefully this partnership will get the recognition it deserves, as it showcases some of the finest singing and musicianship that you could wish to hear.
